Drinks Industry Titans Convene In New York At The 41st Annual Impact Seminar

March 10, 2017

Leading executives from across the drinks industry descended on New York City this week for the 41st Annual Impact Marketing Seminar. Hosted by M. Shanken Communications chairman Marvin R. Shanken, the marquee event featured presentations from leading players across all three tiers of the beverage alcohol business.

The event kicked off Wednesday evening with a welcoming reception at the Kimpton Hotel Eventi hosted by Paul Duffy, chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard North America.

On Thursday, Seminar attendees were addressed by seven of the industry’s leading lights, each with a unique perspective on the business: Takeshi Niinami, president and CEO, Suntory Holdings Ltd.; Paul Duffy, chairman and CEO, Pernod Ricard USA; James Thompson, chief marketing and innovation officer, Diageo North America; Wayne Chaplin, CEO, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits; Mike Miller, director of new marketplace consumer businesses at Amazon; Rick Tigner, CEO, Jackson Family Wines; and Danny Meyer, CEO, Union Square Hospitality Group.

The morning session was followed by a Champagne reception, and then a luncheon in the Pierre hotel’s Cotillion Room. Following the meal, Marvin R. Shanken introduced guest speaker Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, who remains a leading voice in national politics and media. Gingrich is only the second speaker to address the Impact Seminar luncheon twice, the other being former President George W. Bush. Ascending to the dais, Gingrich spoke on the political landscape in the aftermath of the tumultuous 2016 presidential campaign, culminating in the election of President Donald Trump. Gingrich then took questions from Shanken on hot-button topics across the national spectrum.

The 42nd Annual Impact Seminar will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018, in New York City.
