Meiomi Crosses 1 Million Cases As Double-Digit Climb Continues
April 26, 2017Constellation Brands’ Meiomi wine label continues to lead the way for upscale Pinot Noir in the U.S. market.
Meiomi ($25 a 750-ml.)—whose flagship Pinot Noir accounts for 90% of sales—leapt 37% from a large base last year, reaching 1.1 million cases, according to Impact Databank. Constellation tells SND it expects the brand to continue on its double-digit trajectory, amid the luxury Pinot Noir category’s ongoing expansion.
“Meiomi is seeing high double-digit growth in both the on- and off-premise, outpacing the luxury price segment by high margins. We’re working to sustain this growth through increasing distribution and line extensions,” says Kim Moore, marketing director, luxury for Constellation, citing the brand’s Meiomi Chardonnay offshoot, as well as its recent launch of Meiomi rosé in March. Moore adds that Meiomi Chardonnay is “performing very well,” with depletions nearly doubling year-on-year.
This year, Meiomi is ramping up its focus on the on-premise, which currently comprises around 20% of overall sales. The California brand is looking to grow its by-the-glass placements, especially with national restaurant and hotel accounts. But the grocery channel remains a pillar of Meiomi’s business, driven by strong sales in states such as California, Florida and Texas, among other major markets. —Christina Jelski
