July 11, 2017

Indian single malt whisky maker John Distilleries Ltd. (JDL) has released Paul John Bold, a new peated single malt whisky expression, in the U.S. market. Bold ($75) joins a Paul John portfolio that also includes Brilliance ($60), Edited ($65), Select Cask Classic ($95) and Select Cask Peated ($100).

The Paul John single malts were first introduced in the U.K. in 2012, and launched in the U.S. market last year. They’ve received widespread critical acclaim, with Paul John Single Cask Whisky P1-163 garnering a 91-point rating from Whisky Advocate, and Paul John Brilliance and Paul John Select Cask Peated both scoring 88 points.

Bold will be launched gradually, with most markets receiving it by autumn. Key markets include New Jersey, New York, Texas, California, Georgia, Maryland, Florida, Nebraska, Illinois, Connecticut, Tennessee, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Colorado, Oklahoma, Nevada and Washington, D.C. About 1,000 cases will be available initially in the U.S. market. Paul John is targeting a total portfolio volume of 12,000-15,000 cases in the U.S. for 2017.

Paul John skews 75% off-premise and 25% on-premise. Top retail accounts include USA Wine Traders Club, Buy-Rite Liquor, Town Wine & Spirits, Mission Liquor and Total Wine & More.
