E. Guigal Acquires Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s Domaine de Nalys

July 20, 2017

Rhône producer E. Guigal has purchased Domaine de Nalys, marking its first property in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Financial details weren’t disclosed. One of the oldest domaines in the region, documented as far back as the 17th century, Nalys covers 124 acres and includes three separate vineyards. Since 1976, it has been owned by French insurance company Groupama. Nalys’ wines include a Châteauneuf-du-Pape ($40), Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Châtaignier ($60) and Châteauneuf-du-Pape White ($40) among others.

Guigal, whose wines are handled by Vintus in the U.S., has long included wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape as part of its portfolio, but hasn’t had its own domaine in the area until now. Vintus president and CEO Michael Quinttus tells SND that Guigal currently sells 110,000 cases in the U.S. annually, with sales more than doubling in the market since 2010, when the brand joined the Vintus portfolio. The Nalys wines are also expected to be handled by Vintus looking ahead.—Daniel Marsteller
