September 29, 2017•Craft spirits specialist Samson & Surrey—led by Bacardi veterans Robert Furniss-Roe and Juan Rovira—has aligned with Young’s Market Co. for distribution in nine Western states: Alaska, California, Hawaii, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. The Samson & Surrey portfolio includes Few American Whiskies and Gin, Bluecoat Gin, Brenne French Single Malt and Widow Jane Bourbon and Rye. Earlier this year, Samson & Surrey also aligned with Breakthru Beverage across the wholesaler’s distribution network, which includes 15 states and Washington D.C.
•California-based Firestone Walker Brewing has released Mocha Merlin Oatmeal Stout across the U.S. The 5.5%-abv stout is brewed with HoneyCo coffee and cocoa nibs from Ghana. The coffee is added directly to the fermentation tank and the cocoa is steeped in the beer. The beer is brewed with lactose to give it a soft texture and a hint of sweetness. Firestone Walker’s Mocha Merlin Oatmeal Stout is available on draft and in six-packs of 12-ounce cans.
•Dripping Springs, Texas-based San Luis Spirits has launched 1876 Texas Straight Bourbon whiskey. With a mashbill of 80% Texas corn and 20% Secale Cereale Oklahoma winter rye, the new Bourbon is a mix of three-, four- and five-year-old whiskies aged in American white oak barrels. Distributed across the Lone Star State, 1876 Texas Straight Bourbon is the sixth product in the San Luis Spirits family, joining Well No. 1876 Vodka, Dripping Springs Vodka, Dripping Springs Texas Orange Vodka, Dripping Springs Artisan Gin and Dripping Springs Traditional Gin.
