Craft Brewing and Distilling News for October 10, 2017
October 10, 2017•Louisville, Kentucky’s Copper & Kings has unveiled 1495 Guelders Gin, billed as being inspired by the world’s oldest gin recipe. Based on a 1495 recipe from the Duchy of Guelders region (now known as Germany), the new offering is made with a base of wine and beer and characterized by notes of clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, among other flavors. Bottled at 94 proof, 1495 Guelders Gin will be available at select retail outlets, priced at $45 a 750-ml. Its launch follows the recent release of Copper & King’s American Dry Gin ($35) and American Old Tom Gin ($40) earlier this year.
•Portland, Oregon-based Cascade Brewing has introduced Rose City Sour, a beer made in homage to Portland’s status as the “City of Roses.” A blend of wheat and blonde ales, Rose City Sour was aged for 14 months in oak wine barrels with a mixture of rose petals, rose hips and hibiscus tea. The 7%-abv offering will be available in 750-ml. bottles and on draft across Cascade’s distribution network, as well as at the brewery’s Barrel House and Raccoon Lodge and Brew Pub.
•Wisconsin’s Ciderboys Cider Co. is releasing Zen Berry, a new limited-edition hard cider. A tart blend of apple cider and boysenberries, the entry is available in limited quantities, sold in six-packs or 12-ounce bottles and on draft across Ciderboys’ 33-state distribution area. Zen Berry joins three year-round offerings—First Press, Strawberry Magic and British Dry—in the Ciderboys current lineup.
