Bacardi’s Puerto Rican Rum Distillery Back Up And RunningOctober 10, 2017
Bacardi has resumed production at its Puerto Rico-based rum distillery, less than two weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. Located in the town of Cataño, the distillery’s rum stocks and distillation equipment were left intact and the facility was able to export its first post-hurricane shipment last week. According to a Bacardi spokesperson, the power company has restored electricity to the distillery. Additionally, Bacardi has established a small gas station at the site, providing employees with access to fuel. The news follows Bacardi Ltd.’s recent pledge to donate $2 million to help rebuild Puerto Rico and provide for the displaced. —Christina JelskiSubscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
