•In case you missed it, earlier this morning SND reported news of Casa Cuervo’s $205 million acquisition of the Pendleton Whisky portfolio from Oregon-based Hood River Distillers. The Canada-sourced whisky label sells about 250,000 cases annually. Click here for the full story.
•Campari is set to invest $5 million in its Forty Creek Canadian Whisky distillery in Grimsby, Ontario. The funds will go to renovate and redevelop the site, which Campari acquired along with the Forty Creek brand for $168 million in 2014. Forty Creek, which is currently at about 65,000 cases in the U.S., includes a core Barrel Select offering ($22) as well as Copper Pot Reserve ($27) and Confederation Oak Reserve ($65) extensions.
•Martin Scott Wines, part of The Winebow Group, has been named the exclusive U.S. distributor for Australia’s Four Pillars gin in New York and New Jersey. Four Pillars includes a Rare Dry Gin ($40/41.8% abv), Navy Strength Gin ($48/58% abv) and Bloody Shiraz Gin ($40/37.8% abv). The latter is steeped for eight weeks with Shiraz grapes and has a sweeter profile, the company says. Established in 2013 in the Yarra Valley, Four Pillars specializes in handcrafted gins made with botanicals indigenous to Australia. Craft Spirits Co-Op will continue to handle Four Pillars in California.
•Chopin Imports has agreed to handle distribution and sales for Europa International’s Australian Bitters. The Australian Bitters flavors include original Aromatic, Orange, Grapefruit, Barrel Spice, Smoke, Chocolate and Coffee, along with a craft bitters and coffee liqueur. Chopin’s existing stable includes its namesake vodka, which is expected to top 100,000 cases this year, Dorda Double Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel liqueurs, Clase Azul Tequila, La Pinta Pomegranate Liqueur, Portobello Road Gin and Adirondack Whiskey.
•Napa Valley’s Rombauer Vineyards has named Heather Rehnberg as director of marketing. Most recently brand manager for Beringer Vineyards’ luxury and commercial tiers at Treasury Wine Estates, Rehnberg’s 10 years of industry experience also includes time with Delicato Family Vineyards.
