News Briefs for March 28, 2018
March 28, 2018•The Macallan has introduced a new limited edition label, The Macallan 50 Years Old. The 44%-abv release was aged in a single Sherry butt for 50 years, and only 200 bottles are available worldwide. Thirty-five of those bottles—all retailing at $35,000 a 750-ml.—are allocated to the U.S. The whisky will be available starting in April.
•Treasury Wine Estates has announced that Walking Dead Wines, its partnership with Skybound Entertainment based off of the hit TV series, is going on allocation due to strong demand. After launching in January, the California brand’s Blood Red Blend and Cabernet Sauvignon (both $19 a 750-ml.) are already in short supply, and the next vintage won’t be released for several months. In its first year on the market, the Walking Dead Wines brand is expected to sell about 100,000 cases. The label’s augmented reality experience, facilitated via the Living Wine Labels app, has been viewed more than 16 million times, TWE notes.
