April 9, 2018•Craft beer exports grew by 3.6% in 2017 to around 480,000 barrels valued at $125 million, according to the Brewers Association. Exports increased by 7.4% in Asia (not including Japan), 2.6% in Japan, and 1.3% in Western Europe. Canada remains the largest export market for U.S.-produced craft beers, with 51.3% of exports heading north of the border. The U.K. and Sweden, with 10.5% and 6.7% shares, respectively, are the second- and third-largest export markets for the U.S. craft brewing industry.
•Tampa, Florida’s Cigar City Brewing, part of the CANarchy portfolio alongside Perrin Brewing and Oskar Blues, is expanding into Michigan. The brewer has partnered with 16 wholesalers to bring its portfolio to the state. The initial roll out—featuring Jai Alai IPA, Maduro Brown Ale, and Guayabera Citra Pale Ale in 6-packs of 12-ounce cans and on draft—began at the beginning of April and the company is celebrating the new market entry at a series of launch parties throughout the state. Cigar City’s lineup is now available in 17 states.
