Gallo Boosts Central Coast Vineyard Holdings With Deal For Santa Barbara’s Rancho Real

May 4, 2018

E. & J. Gallo Winery has acquired Santa Barbara-based Rancho Real Vineyard for an undisclosed sum. Located within the Santa Maria Valley appellation, Rancho Real spans 436 acres, 211 acres of which are planted with a variety of Burgundian and Rhône grape varietals, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Pinot Gris, and Gamay. According to Roger Nabedian, senior vice president and general manager of Gallo’s Premium Wine Division, the purchase will help the company keep pace with growing U.S. demand for coastal-sourced grapes and high-end wines. Rancho Real joins Gallo’s existing Central Coast holdings, which include the Edna Valley Vineyard in San Luis Obispo, Brindlewood Estate Winery in Santa Barbara, and Talbott Vineyards in Monterey’s Santa Lucia Highlands.—Christina Jelski
