•Shmaltz Brewing Company has sold its Clifton Park, New York brewery to Rich Buceta, owner of Queens-based SingleCut Beersmiths. Terms weren’t disclosed. Shmaltz says that during a transitional period extending through late 2018, it will continue to brew, package, and operate as before while SingleCut obtains the federal and state licensing to take over the Clifton Park operations. Shmaltz adds that it will be announcing new brewing partners in the coming months. The Clifton Park brewery produces 26,000 barrels annually. In addition to Shmaltz brews it has contract-produced beer for A&S/Boston Beer (Coney Island), Bronx Brewery, Speakeasy, Heartland, and Foreign Objects. Meanwhile, Shmaltz has announced that it will open a new retail tasting room and bottle shop in Troy, New York, focused on its 518 Craft line as well as New York state beer, spirits, and ciders.

•Brooklyn-based craft distiller The Noble Experiment NYC—part of the Proximo Spirits portfolio—has released Owney’s Rum, a new white rum label. Named for famed New York City bootlegger Owen “Owney” Madden, the 40%-abv entry is made with a blend of The Noble Experiment’s Owney’s Distiller’s Reserve rum and two-year-old cask-aged Dominican rum. Owney’s white rum is available in 750-ml. and 1-liter formats, priced at $28 a 750-ml. The label marks The Noble Experiment’s second offering, following the launch of Distiller’s Reserve in 2012.

•St. Louis, Missouri-based 1220 Artisan Spirits has released Origin, billed as a Western-style gin. Made with juniper, bey armut (a distillate of the Bergamot orange), blood orange, and neroli (a steam distilled extract of the orange blossom flower), Origin is the first expression from 1220 Artisan Spirits, which recently debuted as an offshoot of Missouri’s 4 Hands Brewing Co. The new gin is available at restaurants and retailers across Missouri, as well as at 4 Hands’ tasting room. Additional gin offerings that highlight seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients are set to join the 1220 portfolio later in the year.

•Bend, Oregon-based Deschutes Brewing will launch Humm Zinger, a kombucha radler made with local producer Humm Kombucha. The 4.3%-abv beer is brewed with Cascade hops, Pilsner malt and Humm’s kombucha. Humm Zinger, according to Deschutes, has been in development for over three years and the final recipe took 130 trials to perfect. The radler will roll out by the end of this month in 6-packs of 12-ounce cans in the Pacific Northwest. Deschutes is the 10th-largest craft brewery in the U.S., according to the Brewers Association.
