Craft Brewing and Distilling News for May 30, 2018

May 30, 2018

•The Canarchy Craft Brewery Collective—which includes Oskar Blues, Cigar City, Perrin, Squatters, and Wasatch—has appointed COO Matt Fraser as president of the company following the departure of former CEO David Pillsbury. Fraser initially joined Canarchy as CFO in July 2015 and, since then, has worked to coordinate and align the five breweries in the company’s portfolio. After a sluggish end to 2017, Canarchy’s depletions have trended upward, rising 1.2% for 2018’s first quarter and 4.4% in April and May. Oskar Blues’ Dale’s Pale Ale and Cigar City’s Jai Alai IPA are performing particularly well, with Dale’s growing by 12% in chain channels over last year and Jai Alai up 70% month-to-date for May.

•Auburn, California’s Common Cider Company has launched two new hard ciders, Americana Apple and Pomme Rosé. Americana Apple is a 6.5%-abv cider brewed with rose water and lemon. It’s available through the summer months in 12-ounce cans and 22-ounce bottles. Pomme Rosé is a 6.5%-abv cider blended with Grenache and raspberry essence. A portion of the profits from Pomme Rosé will go to Piggy Bank, a nonprofit assisting small farmers who raise heritage pig breeds. Common Cider Company’s ciders are distributed throughout California and Northern Nevada.
