News Alert: Mark Teasdale Departing Proximo To Join Craft Spirits Player Biggar and Leith
June 15, 2018Shortly after the markets closed on Friday afternoon, it was announced that Mark Teasdale, who’s currently president and CEO of Proximo Spirits, will leave that role to join Biggar and Leith, a craft spirits player known for brands including Malfy, a super-premium gin brand from Italy, as well as Spytail, a new Cognac barrel-finished Caribbean rum.
Biggar and Leith is based in New York, and was founded by Elwyn Gladstone, who held senior marketing roles at Proximo and William Grant & Sons. Teasdale had been at Proximo Spirits, the international arm of Grupo Cuervo, since 2007. He had previously been president and CEO for North America at William Grant, where he collaborated with Gladstone on the successful launch of Hendrick’s gin. At Proximo, Teasdale and Gladstone collaborated on the launch of The Kraken rum.
“It’s been a great 11 years at Proximo,” Teasdale said. “But it was time to set out on a new venture, and I look forward to working again with my good friend Elwyn Gladstone.”
Under Teasdale’s leadership, Proximo showed exponential growth over the years, which helped establish parent company Grupo Cuervo’s role on the international stage. Those efforts culminated in the group’s successful public offering last year.
Teasdale launched his drinks industry career in 1987 with Paddington Corp (now Diageo), where he oversaw the marketing of Baileys and Malibu. He moved onto William Grant & Sons in 1997 and worked there for a decade before joining Proximo.—David Fleming
