American Whiskies Stand Out On Impact’s “Hot Prospects” Spirits List

September 6, 2018

With U.S. consumers increasingly drinking across categories and drawing from a diverse repertoire of brands, Impact’s “Hot Prospects” list showcases the rising stars that are capturing their attention.

In spirits, the Hot Prospects list is led by American whiskey this year, with the category claiming 10 entrants. Following close on whiskey’s heels is vodka, which, despite seeing a recent slowdown in the U.S., made a strong showing with eight winners. Likewise, Tequila also managed to carve out a solid presence with five honorees, even as a number of Hot Prospect Tequilas from last year graduated to the Impact’s “Hot Brands” list. In total, 33 spirits brands were named Hot Prospects this year based on their 2017 performances, with 14 of them making their debut appearance.

To qualify as Hot Prospects, spirits must have posted 15% depletions growth in 2017 while also showing consistent growth in the preceding two years. Volumes must be between 50,000 and 200,000 cases. New products can qualify as Hot Prospects if they exceed 50,000 cases in their first year.

Spirits Hot Prospects above the 100,000-case mark include Basil Hayden’s, Prairie Organic, Casamigos, d’Ussé, Recipe 21, Blue Chair Bay, Martell, Absolut Lime, Exotico, Jameson Caskmates, Reyka, Cîroc Summer Colada, Jim Beam Vanilla, Elijah Craig, Rebel Yell, Captain Morgan Loco Nut, Western Son, Cîroc French Vanilla, and Aperol.

The full “Hot Prospects” list, along with data and analysis, appears in the September 1&15 issue of Impact.
