Craft Brewing and Distilling News for October 4, 2018

•California’s Lagunitas Brewing Co., owned by Heineken, is laying off more than 100 employees, equal to 12% of its workforce, mostly at its Petaluma headquarters in Sonoma County. Lagunitas blamed a retrenchment in the American craft beer market for the cutbacks. Other brewers, including the craft beer division of Anheuser-Busch InBev and Green Flash Brewing in San Diego, have announced layoffs of their own in recent months amid slowing craft beer sales and heightened competition.

•Austin, Texas’ Celis Brewery has introduced Celis Juicy IPA to on-premise accounts throughout Texas. The 7%-abv ale is brewed with Citra, Azacca, Idaho 7, and Simcoe hops, and is the brewer’s take on the trendy New England-style IPA. The beer will be available in 12-ounce cans by the end of the month in Austin, with statewide distribution to come by January.
