•Portuguese wine group Sogrape Vinhos has acquired Quinta da Romeira, a winemaker located in Bucelas, Portugal, which is 15 miles outside of Lisbon. The deal, whose price wasn’t disclosed, marks Sogrape’s first entry into the Lisbon wine region. Quinta da Romeira’s labels include Prova Régia and Morgado de Sta. Catherina. Its total property is 180 hectares (445 acres), of which 75 hectares (185 acres) are vineyards, planted with the Portuguese grape variety Arinto. The property is the largest Arinto vineyard in the country. With this move, Sogrape adds to its regional diversity and reinforces its role as Portugal’s biggest wine group. The company is primarily known for its Portuguese holdings in the Douro wine region (Casa Ferreirinha), in Port (Sandeman, Ferreira, and Offley), in the Dão region (Quinta dos Carvalhais), in Vinho Verde (Gazela and Azevedo), and in Alentejo (Herdade do Peso). It also owns wineries in Spain, Argentina, Chile, and New Zealand.
