Constellation Takes Minority Stake In New York State’s Black Button Distilling

February 5, 2019

Constellation Brands has made another move in the craft spirits sector, acquiring a minority interest in Rochester, New York-based Black Button Distilling for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2012, Black Button’s offerings include Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Citrus Forward Gin, seasonal Lilac Gin, and Bespoke Bourbon Cream. The distillery produces 9,600 cases annually, with its distribution focused on New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. It also operates a tasting room and bottle shop in Buffalo, New York.

The acquisition was made through Constellation Ventures, the company’s venture capital arm. Black Button joins Constellation’s expanding craft spirits portfolio, which also includes outright ownership or minority stakes in High West, Copper & Kings, The Real McCoy, Old Line Spirits, Bardstown Bourbon Co., Nelson’s Green Brier, and Catoctin Creek.—Daniel Marsteller
