Cannabis-Infused Vodka Expands Distribution Footprint

February 5, 2019

California’s Humboldt Distillery has expanded distribution for its cannabis-infused vodka, Humboldt’s Finest, making it available in Southern California and in several other states. Humboldt’s Finest (40% abv and $30 a 750-ml.), which launched three years ago, was previously sold predominantly in Northern California near its Humboldt County home base. By the end of February, the cannabis spirit will be sold in more than 100 Southern California stores. Retailers include Vons, Pavilions, Albertsons, and Ralphs grocery stores, as well as liquor stores like BevMo and Total Wine & More. In all, Humboldt’s Finest is available in roughly a dozen states, from Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico to Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Indiana.

Humboldt’s Finest is made with industrial hemp and has no cannabidiol (CBD) or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), meaning it has no psychoactive effect and is legal nationwide. “We’re trying to capture the aromatic terpenes common to cannabis that provide its unique aroma,” says Humboldt Distillery founder Abe Stevens. “We get a fair number of people who are interested because of the cannabis aspect, as that’s a growing industry. But more important for us, there’s a lot of interest from people in the cocktail culture because of its unique herbal qualities. It makes for some innovative cocktails.”—Laura Pelner
