Impact’s 43rd Annual Marketing Seminar Convenes Drinks Industry’s Brightest Lights

March 11, 2019

Leading executives from across the drinks industry descended on New York City last week at Impact’s 43rd Annual Marketing Seminar. Hosted by M. Shanken Communications chairman Marvin R. Shanken, the event featured presentations from top players in wine, spirits, retail, cyber-security, and the emerging cannabis industry.

The proceedings kicked off Wednesday night with a welcoming reception at Midtown’s Brasserie Cognac, hosted by Lawson Whiting, president and CEO of Brown-Forman.

On Thursday, Seminar attendees heard presentations from seven speakers taking on key topics within the drinks business. They included: Joseph Gallo, CEO of E.&J. Gallo Winery, on “Transforming Leadership from Two Legendary Founders to a New Generation;” Alexandre Ricard, CEO of Pernod Ricard, on “The Longevity of Luxury;” Bill Newlands, president and CEO of Constellation Brands, on “Facing the Challenges of a Changing Consumer Marketplace;” Michael Binstein, owner of Binny’s Beverage Depot, on “Trends in Beverage Alcohol Retailing in America;” Ted Schlein, managing partner at Kleiner Perkins, on “The Growing Importance of Cyber-Security;” Bruce Linton, CEO of Canopy Growth Corp., on “The Future of Cannabis;” and Tom Bulleit, founder of Bulleit Bourbon, on “The Trials, Tribulations, and Joys of Creating Bulleit.”

Following the morning session, attendees gathered for a Champagne reception and then a luncheon held in the Pierre Hotel’s Cotillion Room. After the meal, Marvin R. Shanken introduced the Seminar’s luncheon speaker, legal scholar Alan Dershowitz. The longtime Harvard law professor and civil liberties champion took questions from Shanken on the turbulent political landscape in the U.S., touching on pressing issues including the Iran nuclear deal, Israeli-U.S. relations, and the early field of contenders for the 2020 presidential election.
