Whisky Advocate: Exploring The World Of Big Box Whiskies

April 22, 2019

Costco, Walmart, Total Wine, and Trader Joe’s sell private label whiskies under familiar house-brand names—and sometimes under names that fit right in alongside famous brands like The Glenlivet, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniel’s, and Crown Royal. Total Wine and Walmart, for example, sell private-label whiskies that look a lot like their branded competition, except for their lower pricing.

Whisky Advocate recently navigated the aisles of the major big box players, exploring the often-opaque world of private label whiskies. In a separate section of the same report, the magazine’s tasting panel blind-tasted and rated over 40 different private label whiskies, including Scotch, Irish, Bourbon, rye, and Canadian. The panel’s full list of private label ratings can be found here.
