Adding Riunite, Bolla, And Other Labels, Frederick Wildman & Sons Expands By 2 Million CasesJune 12, 2019
Frederick Wildman & Sons has officially taken on U.S. importing for the portfolios of Italian wine groups Cantine Riunite & CIV and Gruppo Italiano Vini (GIV), gaining brands including Riunite, Cantine Maschio, Bolla, Fontana Candida, Fratelli Cella, Albinea Canali, and Movendo.
Previously handled by Banfi, the brands combine for more than 2 million cases in total, according to Impact Databank, with Riunite and Bolla the largest at approximately 1.5 million cases and 400,000 cases respectively.
While Riunite and Bolla have been declining in recent years, the Maschio Prosecco brand has seen notable growth, roughly doubling in size over the past four years to top 90,000 cases.
Wildman is adding a new dedicated division for the Italian brands, and it will retain the Riunite network of distributors, including Republic National Distributing Company, Breakthru Beverage Group, and Empire Merchants, while maintaining its own existing fine wine division and its distributors, including Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits and M.S. Walker.
Frederick Wildman president and COO Marc Hirten noted that the addition of the new Italian labels “grows both our portfolio and our company resources significantly,” adding that Wildman intends to “fuel further development and growth for these brands that are already well established in the American market.” Wildman’s portfolio also includes Champagne Pol Roger, Famille Hugel, Domaine Olivier Leflaive, Jean-Jacques Vincent/Château Fuissé, and Domaine Pascal Jolivet.—Daniel Marsteller
