Canopy Growth Breaks Ground On $150 Million New York Hemp Operation
July 30, 2019Canopy Growth has officially broken ground on its industrial hemp plant in upstate New York. Located in Kirkwood, Broome County in the Southern Tier region, the 300,000-square-foot facility will be accompanied by 2,000 acres of growing space for hemp.
With the new Kirkwood site, Canopy plans to focus on “extracting, processing, and formulating cannabinoid-based consumer products and medicines” as the U.S. market for CBD products rapidly expands. Late last year, legal restrictions on industrial hemp and hemp-derived products were lifted at the Federal level as part of the U.S. government’s 2018 Farm Bill.—Daniel Marsteller
