•Portland, Oregon-based craft spirits player Westward has launched Westward Oregon Stout Cask whiskey, an American single malt finished in ex-stout beer casks. Released as an Oregon exclusive earlier in the year, Westward Oregon Stout Cask ($90 a 750-ml.) is now rolling out nationally. The company’s first-ever line extension, it joins Westward’s flagship American Single Malt whiskey label. Made from American pale ale that’s distilled twice in pot stills, Westward Oregon Stout Cask is then aged in lightly toasted American Oak barrels before being finished in ex-stout casks for up to a year and bottled at 45% abv. In September 2018, Diageo-backed Distill Ventures took a minority stake in the Westward brand. Westward laid down about 1,200 barrels of whiskey in 2018, equal to roughly 30,000 9-liter cases.
