Canopy Unveils New Beverages And Brands Ahead of Launch

December 3, 2019

With less than two weeks before the first infused cannabis products could hit store shelves in Canada, Canopy Growth has provided a full look at its planned line-up. Canopy has long positioned itself as the presumptive leader in cannabis beverages and it has been expected that the company would launch various beverages under its marquee brands Tweed and Tokyo Smoke. Tweed is well represented in the full lineup of vapes, drinks, and edibles, but the bigger revelation is Canopy’s announcement of a proprietary cannabis extract that will undergird its entire suite of beverages.

Canopy announced that its science team has developed a process that distills whole flower cannabis into a clear liquid. The product has been fittingly named and trademarked “Distilled Cannabis,” and will be used across brands and formats.

Under the Tweed name, a trio of RTD seltzers are flavored to represent Tweed’s three core cannabis strains: Penelope and Tonic (containing 2 mg of THC and 1.5 mg of CBD a 12-ounce can), Bakerstreet and Ginger Ale, and Houndstooth and Soda (both containing 2 mg of THC). Also, Houseplant, backed by actor Seth Rogen, will release sparkling water in lemon and grapefruit flavors (both 2.5 mg of THC a 12-ounce can).

New brand Quatreau is targeted at wellness-focused consumers and will come in four flavors: Cucumber & Mint and Passion Fruit & Guava (each containing 20 mg of CBD a 12-ounce can), as well as Ginger & Lime and Blueberry Acai (both 2 mg CBD and 2 mg THC). Canopy will release its most potent offering under the name Deep Space, which will contain 10 mg of cannabis a can, the maximum allowed per serving under Canadian law.

Additionally, the Distilled Cannabis will be sold uncut as a Tweed product in 150-ml. bottles containing 10 mg of THC. Canopy says it can be enjoyed straight, on the rocks, or mixed with any non-alcoholic beverage.

Meanwhile, having partnered with Hummingbird Chocolate, Canopy will release chocolates under three brands: Bean & Bud, Tweed, and Tokyo Smoke. Bean & Bud 70% dark chocolate medallions are made from single-origin Zorzal Cacao. Bean & Bud Dominican Craft Reserve contains two medallions per package with 5 mg of THC each. Tweed milk chocolate is made with Canopy Growth’s proprietary hybrid strain, Penelope, and contains 2.5 mg of THC and 1.8 mg of CBD in each of the four chocolate squares. Tokyo Smoke THC-infused dark chocolate is created with a sativa-dominant cannabis extract with minimal CBD content. Each five-piece chocolate bar contains 10 mg of THC in total. Canopy also recently inked deals to add five Tokyo Smoke retail locations in Ontario.—Danny Sullivan
