January 24, 2020•The latest Stagg Jr., a new Japanese whisky, and offerings from O. Z. Tyler and Westland are among the new entries featured in Whisky Advocate’s latest whiskey roundup. The magazine’s website has all the details.
•Ex-Major Leaguer Alex Rodriguez has partnered with Anheuser-Busch InBev on its Presidente brand from the Dominican Republic. Rodriguez, the son of Dominican immigrants, has been named chairman of Presidente USA, and has taken a minority stake in the brand, the New York Post reported. AB InBev says the partnership with A-Rod will be key to increasing the brand’s U.S. presence, as it looks to introduce new products and promotional activities tying in with Dominican culture.
•Edrington has released a special Lunar New Year-themed bottling of The Macallan Double Cask 12-year-old. The 43% single malt Scotch whisky is matured in Sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks. This edition is packaged with a label featuring red and gold knots and a drawing of the rat zodiac sign. The 2020 Lunar New Year pack features two 750-ml. bottles of The Macallan and is now available in limited quantities across the U.S. for around $140.
•Brown-Forman has announced a packaging revamp for Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire. The 35% abv flavored whiskey is made from a blend of Jack Daniel’s flagship whiskey and cinnamon liqueur. The new design retains Tennessee Fire’s red background but swaps black lettering for white lettering across the entire label. The new labels are now rolling out across the U.S. Tennessee Fire, at more than 400,000 cases in the U.S., is one of the pillars of Jack Daniel’s flavored whiskies alongside its honey and apple releases.
