Craft Brewing and Distilling News for February 6, 2020

February 6, 2020

•Tampa, Florida-based Cigar City Brewing is adding Florida Man Double IPA to its 2020 year-round line-up. The beer’s promotion to the big leagues follows several limited releases and a reworking of the recipe to include Citra, Azacca, El Dorado, and Mandarina Bavaria hops to bring out flavors of clementine, stone fruit, and guava. Select markets began receiving the 8.5% abv ale last month and it is now rolling out to Cigar City’s entire 41-state distribution network as well as select international markets. Cigar City is part of the Canarchy Collective of breweries.

•Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Tattersall Distilling is releasing a limited-edition collaboration with Surly Brewing Co. Tattersall has taken Surly’s Darkness Russian Imperial Stout and distilled it to create Darkness Bierschnapps, a 20% abv spirit. Two bottles of the Stout go into each 750-ml. of Bierschnapps and nearly 600 gallons were used in total to produce 200 cases. After distillation it is aged twice—in new charred white oak barrels and in the original stout barrels. It’s available now at select retailers throughout the Midwest, retailing for $30.
