Cannabis Briefs for March 24, 2020March 24, 2020
•The fallout from the coronavirus may delay cannabis legalization in New York. Governor Cuomo again hopes to enact legalization by inserting it into the state budget proposal, which has to be approved by the end of this month. Because lawmakers are focusing their priorities on the ramifications of the current pandemic, State Senator Liz Krueger said it may be held out of the budget to be passed as stand-alone legislation at a later date. Krueger, who’s sponsoring a legalization bill, said it’s important that New York put forth a “nation-leading legalization model,” something that may require more attention than is possible at the moment. “If that cannot be achieved in the midst of a public health crisis, then we will all be better off waiting,” she added.
