Cannabis Briefs for March 31, 2020

March 31, 2020

•Santa Rosa, California-based CannaCraft has converted a portion of its manufacturing space and production capacity to formulate and package individual bottles of hand sanitizer for donation throughout California. The cannabis infuser and bottler has procured sufficient materials to produce 40 gallons of hand sanitizer, which will be packaged by a limited production team, as the company has restricted facility access to essential personnel only. In a further effort to limit interactions and potential virus transmission, the production staff has been split into small groups spread throughout the facility. CannaCraft is partnered with Lagunitas on its Hi-Fi Hops sparkling cannabis beverage, as well as other cannabis drinks for the California market.

•Canadian producer Organigram announced that it will lay off an unspecified number of staff due to the impact of COVID-19. Organigram employs around 800 people in total. The company warned that the layoffs would result in a corresponding reduction in production. Concurrently, Organigram announced that it had received Health Canada approval for its Phase 5 expansion, which includes a two-floor production facility with dedicated spaces for packaging flower, pre-rolls, vape pens, and powdered beverages.

•The National Association of Cannabis Businesses (NACB) has hired Mark Gorman as its new executive vice president and CEO. Gorman joins NACB following a 20-year tenure at the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS), where he was senior vice president of government relations. Gorman will lead the NACB’s work to broaden support among other cannabis groups, consumer protection agencies, and policymakers for its responsibility standards and practice guidelines. The NACB was established in 2017 and is focused on promoting the compliance, transparency, and growth of the U.S. cannabis industry.
