The Wine Group Confirms Appointment Of Cate Hardy As CEO

May 26, 2020

In case you missed this weekend’s news alert, The Wine Group has now confirmed to SND that veteran retail executive Cate Hardy will take over as CEO from Brian Vos, who is retiring later this year after a 20-year tenure with the company.

In a statement, the company noted, “The process for finding the successor for Brian Vos, our current CEO, began almost two years ago. Cate Hardy, who is also a TWG board member, was selected after a national search. The Wine Group will benefit from Cate’s excellent leadership experience as a CEO at PCC Community Markets and in her previous roles, including nine years at Starbucks.”

According to Impact Databank, The Wine Group is the third-largest winemaker globally after E.&J. Gallo and France’s Castel Freres at 50.3 million 9-liter cases on a 3.9% decline in 2019. Its Franzia brand, the largest wine label worldwide, accounts for about half of total volume and was down 2% last year. However, the portfolio also includes Impact “Hot Brands” like Chloe and Yosemite Road, which grew 13.5% to 420,000 cases and 13.6% to 375,000 cases in the U.S. last year, respectively. —Daniel Marsteller
