•Sicilian winery Donnafugata has partnered with fashion label Dolce & Gabbana on Rosa, a new rosé wine. A blend of two indigenous Sicilian grapes, Nerello Mascalese and Nocera, Rosa features iconic Sicilian imagery on its label, which was created by Dolce & Gabbana. The new wine is set to debut in September, and will be retail priced at $45 a 750-ml. Folio Fine Wine Partners will handle Rosa in the U.S.
•Kentucky distiller Bardstown Bourbon Co. has broken ground on a new bottling plant, which will be located adjacent to the distillery and Bardstown’s recently opened visitors center. The new 47,000-square-foot facility will bottle nearly half-a-millon cases annually, and is slated for completion in the spring of 2021. At present, Bardstown’s proprietary brands and its collaborative distilling offerings are bottled at an offsite third party. In addition to its own brand lineup, which launched in 2018, Bardstown produces custom whiskey for 27 customers. The distillery has quadrupled in capacity since launching in 2016, and today produces more than 7 million proof gallons annually, or more than 300 barrels a day, across 40 different mashbills. The company is minority owned by Constellation Brands.
•Square One Organic Spirits is launching a quartet of ready-to-drink cocktails. The line of sparkling, vodka-based RTDs will include the flavors Pear of Roses (containing pear, rose, lavender, rosemary, and lemon), Basil Berry Fizz (basil, strawberry, lemon), Mediterranean Pearl (bergamot, orange, pomegranate, coriander, star anise, and lime), and Cucumber Therapy (cucumber, rose, ginger, and lime). All four flavors are at 7.5% abv and retail for $20 a 4-pack of 12-ounce cans. Distribution will initially be limited to California but will expand across the country over the course of the summer.
•Amber Beverage Group has named Pacific Edge Wine and Spirits as the U.S. importer for Kah Tequila. The California-based Pacific Edge will offer Kah’s portfolio, including Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo, to the on- and off-premise in markets in the U.S. Kah Tequila is produced at Amber Beverage Group’s Fabrica de Tequilas Finos distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. The brand is packaged in rectangular bottles featuring art inspired by Mexican culture.
•Frank Gentile, a former senior vice president of marketing and sales at Banfi Vintners during Riunite Lambrusco’s glory years of the 1980s, passed away in late April at the age of 78. Gentile later left Banfi in 1989 to form Vintwood International and San Giuseppe Wines.
