DISCUS Urges Industry Comments Ahead Of USTR’s Tariff Decision

July 22, 2020

With another round of tariffs on E.U. wines and spirits being considered by the U.S., trade groups are asking industry members to submit comments on the proposal to the U.S. Trade Representative’s (USTR) site ahead of the July 26 deadline. To facilitate the effort, the Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS) has created a “Spirits United” platform, which it says has already collected more than 2,000 comments on the tariff proposal.

“We are urging everyone connected to the U.S. and E.U. spirits industries, from bartenders to farmers to adult consumers, to tell USTR that these tariffs are costing hospitality industry jobs and must be eliminated,” said DISCUS president and CEO Chris Swonger. “U.S. and E.U. leaders need to come together quickly to eliminate these tariffs on distilled spirits, which would provide a much-needed boost to our collective industries and our economies.”—Shane English
