Exclusive: Vintus Reaches Agreement To Handle California’s Marietta Cellars In The U.S. Market

July 23, 2020

Fine wine importer and marketer Vintus has reached a long-term U.S. distribution agreement with Sonoma and Mendocino producer Marietta Cellars, effective immediately.

Marietta was founded in 1978 by Chris Bilbro, who started from an old cow barn in Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley. In the 1980s, Bilbro became a pioneer in making red blends long before they were fashionable. His signature Old Vine Red (OVR)—the company’s flagship today—is a Zinfandel-led, non-vintage field blend that’s produced in lots. Bilbro passed away in January of last year, and his son Scot is now Marietta’s owner and winemaker.

Marietta sourced its grapes in the early days, but established a winery in Geyserville back in 1990, where it operates today. It owns and farms 310 acres of vineyards and produces 50,000 cases annually. In addition to the core OVR ($19), the lineup includes an OVR Rosé ($19) and OVR Riesling ($19). Other key labels are Roman Zinfandel ($24), Armé Cabernet Sauvignon ($27), Christo Red Blend ($24), Angeli Zinfandel ($37), Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon ($42), and Gibson Block Syrah ($42).—David Fleming
