Diageo Makes Another Move In Gin, Investing In Germany’s Rheinland Distillers

August 19, 2020

Just a few days after agreeing to acquire Aviation gin and Davos Brands for up to $610 million, Diageo continues to eye expansion in the gin category. Through its Distill Ventures drinks accelerator, the company has taken a minority stake in Rheinland Distillers for an undisclosed amount. The Bonn, Germany-based distillery produces Siegfried Dry Gin and Wonderleaf non-alcoholic spirit and was founded in 2014.

In addition to successfully launching the Siegfried brand, Rheinland founders Raphael Vollmar and Gerald Koenen have built a digitally focused company with a strong e-commerce and digital marketing presence, Diageo noted. Currently, the craft player’s brands are available throughout Germany and in select locations in the U.K., Switzerland, France, Austria, and the Netherlands, among other European markets.—Shane English
