•Four Roses 2020 Limited Edition, Blanton’s Straight From the Barrel, and newcomers from Ardbeg and GlenDronach are among the offerings featured in Whisky Advocate’s latest weekly roundup. The magazine’s website has all the details.
•Spirits sales continue to grow at a double-digit pace in control states as volumes rose a collective 16% in the month of July, according to the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association (NABCA). Volumes in the first seven months advanced 7.8% cumulatively, compared to a 3.7% increase for all of 2019. Ten control states have posted double-digit gains year-to-date through July, to more than offset the 17% decline in Pennsylvania. Sazerac leads all spirits marketers in control states with 16% share of volume for the first seven months of 2020, followed closely by Diageo. But the fastest-growing company among the top 10 largest-sellers in NABCA year-to-date was Proximo Spirits with a 27% rise, due primarily to a 49% surge by Jose Cuervo Especial Silver Tequila.
•Frankfort, Kentucky-based Pinhook has launched Bohemian Bourbon, the brand’s flagship release for 2020. The 47.5% abv Straight Bourbon whiskey is made from a mash of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley. Bohemian Bourbon’s standard release follows the limited edition High Proof variant; the two offerings are the first Bourbons to come from Castle & Key Distillery since 1972 (when it was known as the Old Taylor Distillery).
