•Nikka Whisky is releasing a new version of its Taketsuru Pure Malt in the U.S. this month. Named for Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru, the expression is a blend of 100% malt whiskies showcasing the balance between liquid from Nikka’s two distilleries in Yoichi and Miyagikyo, Japan. This reformulation of Taketsuru has strengthened the Yoichi side of the blend for increased smokiness. It also features a new label design. The release is at 43% abv and retails for a suggested $80 a 750-ml. Nikka is handled in the U.S. by San Francisco-based importer and distiller Hotaling and Co.

•The Baltimore-based Guinness Open Gate Brewery has added two new barrel-aged beers—Gingerbread Spiced Stout and an Imperial Stout. The spiced beer comes in at 11% abv and is brewed with allspice, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg; and the brand’s Imperial offering is at 10.3% abv. Both beers matured in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. They will be available for a limited time in 4-packs of 11.2-ounce bottles for around $20. Both will also be available on tap at the Diageo-owned Open Gate Brewery through the holiday season.
