•Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 countdown continues today at 10am with the unveiling of cigars Nos. 7, 6, and 5. The magazine kicked off the festivities yesterday with cigars Nos. 10, 9, and 8. Cigars Nos. 4, 3, and 2 will be announced tomorrow, followed by the Cigar of the Year on Thursday. Cigar Aficionado’s full Top 25 Cigars of 2020 will be published Friday, January 15.
•Rémy Cointreau has appointed Jon Arnold as chief commercial officer of its U.S. business, a new position within the group, effective February 1. Prior to joining Rémy Cointreau, Arnold spent 22 years at L’Oréal in general management and key account positions in Australia, France, Thailand, and the U.K. In his new role, he will lead Rémy’s U.S. commercial team and report directly to Ian McLernon, president and CEO, Americas.
•Birmingham, Alabama-based importer Vineyard Brands has added four new wineries to its portfolio. From Bordeaux, Vineyard Brands now represents Saint-Émilion-based Domaines Comte de Malet Roquefort, which includes Château La Gaffelière, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé; Château Armens, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru; Château La Connivence in Pomerol; and Château Chapelle d’Aliénor, by La Gaffelière, Bordeaux Supérieur. Chilean brand Miguel Torres Chile is now under the Vineyard Brands umbrella as well—the winery focuses on organic wines, with a portfolio of both international and indigenous varietals. Lastly, two new Italian estates, Serego Alighieri and Cantina Kurtatsch, are also joining the Vineyard Brands lineup. Serego Alighieri is based in Italy’s Valpolicella Classico district and includes a number of DOCG, DOC, and IGT wines, while Cantina Kurtatsch is in Italy’s Alto Adige region and features a portfolio of 13 different wines.
•Country music star Thomas Rhett is launching a new ultra-premium Tequila brand, Dos Primos. Translating to “Two Cousins,” the brand is a partnership with Rhett’s cousin, pecan magnate Jeff Worn. An ultra-premium blanco Tequila, Dos Primos is distilled at Destiladora González Lux, located just outside the city of Arandas, Mexico, in the highlands of Jalisco.
