Trinchero Bolsters Import Stable, Adding Italy’s Famiglia Cotarella

February 2, 2021

Trinchero Family Estates (TFE) is adding to its imported wine range with an agreement to handle U.S. importing, sales, and marketing for Italy’s Famiglia Cotarella. Famiglia Cotarella has winemaking facilities in Umbria, Lazio, and Montalcino, and markets bottlings ranging in price from $10 to $135. Current volume is around 20,000 cases in the U.S.

Top Italian winemakers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella—whose parents were grapegrowers in Umbria for decades—launched their Falesco winery in 1979. The Famiglia Cotarella portfolio has expanded over the years to include the Falesco, Cotarella, Intrecci, and Liaison labels. Today, third-generation owners Dominga, Enrica, and Marta lead the company.

Famiglia Cotarella is the second Italian producer to join TFE’s stable of family-owned luxury imports. The TFE import range also includes San Polo of Montalcino, numerous boutique Spanish estates, and Australia’s Angove Family Winemakers. The Famiglia Cotarella wines will be sold by TFE’s general market sales team as well as its Heritage Collection fine wine division, which is overseen by third-generation family member Carlo Trinchero.
