Craft Brewing and Distilling News for February 3, 2021
February 3, 2021•Milton, Delaware-based Dogfish Head Brewery is launching Hazy-O IPA. The new release is distinguished by using oat milk as part of its mash along with malted, rolled, and naked oats. The oat milk adds a creamy smoothness to the brew more akin to a milk stout, according to Dogfish Head, contrasting with the tropical hop flavors that come with being a hazy-style IPA. The result of nearly a year of R&D, it’s at 7.1% abv and is rolling out nationally in 6-packs of 12-ounce cans now. Dogfish Head was acquired by the Boston Beer Company for $300 million in May 2019.
•Durham, North Carolina-based Durham Distillery has released Conniption Barrel Aged Gin Series No. 1 2020 Release. The new expression is a limited-edition launch that’s aged in High West Bourbon barrels for 10 months and bottled at 47% abv. Conniption Barrel Aged Gin Series No. 1 joins Navy Strength and American Dry gins—both of which feature Italian coriander, cardamom, and juniper, among other botanicals—in the label’s lineup. Durham Distillery also produces craft vodka, liqueurs, and canned cocktails.
