Petalfast Launches Premium Smarty Plants Brand

February 9, 2021

Irvine, California-based cannabis company and brand accelerator Petalfast yesterday launched a new premium flower line called Smarty Plants. Available now in approximately 100 retail locations in California, the brand features five initial strains: indica Ice Cream Cake and hybrids Fatso, Cherry Punch, Rolls Choice OG, and Lava Cake, grown under highly controlled conditions that use custom-made lights to regulate terpene development in the plants.

Maintaining supply capable of meeting demand has been a consistent problem for brands targeting the upscale segment of the market but Petalfast CEO Jason Vegotsky, a KushCo veteran, is confident the company is prepared. Many companies neglect critical supply chain considerations, he told SND, and instead place all their focus simply on growing cannabis. Petalfast’s robust operations and relationships with the distribution and retail tiers will allow the company to avoid those pitfalls, he said.

Masterminded by Petalfast CMO Ryan Goldstein, who’s also the CEO of marketing agency A.P. Keaton, the Smarty Plants brand features quirky art and “free knowledge” in the form of scannable QR codes on each jar of cannabis that take customers to posts about obscure topics on the Smarty Plants website. The launch will be accompanied by retail and social media activations, as well as billboards and other advertising. We’ll have more from Vegotsky and Goldstein in next week’s issue.—Danny Sullivan
