Diageo Acquires Hard Seltzer Label Lone River Ranch Water

March 9, 2021

Diageo has made a play in the burgeoning hard seltzer category, agreeing to acquire Far West Spirits and its Lone River Ranch Water brand for an undisclosed sum. Founder Katie Beal Brown will retain a minority interest and continue to lead the business on a day to day basis as CEO.

The Lone River brand includes Original Ranch Water hard seltzer flavored with organic blue agave nectar and lime juice, as well as Spicy and Rio Red Grapefruit expressions. Currently present across Texas, Tennessee, Arizona, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle, Lone River is at 4% abv and has 80 calories a serving.

“Lone River captures the magic of Americans’ love for agave flavored beverages combined with their desire for light, convenient refreshment,” said Diageo North America president Debra Crew. “This acquisition is very much in keeping with our strategy to acquire high growth brands in fast growing categories.”—Daniel Marsteller
