Cannabis Briefs for March 23, 2021
March 23, 2021•Wakefield, Massachusetts-based Curaleaf is launching Select Fresh, a new series of vapes augmenting its Select brand. Launching simultaneously in ten markets, the Select Fresh line consists of three fruit flavored vape oil cartridges made to work with Select Go, a new vaporizer that combines the small size of a disposable vape with a rechargeable battery and replaceable oil cartridges. The Fresh line joins Select Elite, Select Elite Live, and Select Essentials, which launched earlier this month. Select Fresh is now available in Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, and Oklahoma and will roll out to California, Colorado, Florida, and Massachusetts by mid-April.
•Illinois is on track to open its first cannabis lounge on May 1. Located in Sesser, Illinois, near the Missouri border, the Luna Lounge was approved for onsite consumption in March of last year. It’s a standalone venue without an attached dispensary, though it will rent out hardware for smoking and have rolling papers available. Cannabis lounges remain a rarity in the U.S., as early legalization states did not include provisions for any activity outside of home consumption. However, the idea is becoming more prevalent and the option is being included in more state-level plans.
•GKUA Ultra Premium, the Los Angeles cannabis brand co-founded by rapper Lil Wayne, is expanding to another state. The brand launched in California in December 2019 and has since added Colorado and Michigan to its footprint. Now it’s moving into Oklahoma’s booming medical market, where the state placed no cap on licenses and has registered over 2,000 dispensaries. GKUA’s lineup includes flower in strains including Grape Vine and Sour Diesel #93, vape cartridges, and concentrate for dabbing or adding to flower.
