Wine Australia Debuts New B2B Platform “Connect”

March 31, 2021

Wine Australia is set to launch Connect, a new business-to-business platform aimed at bringing Australian wines and winemakers to the trade while traditional trips and meetings are suspended. The service will launch with 230 winemakers and companies offering nearly 2,000 products to retailers, on-premise representatives, and others in the wine world.

Wine Australia Connect debuts as Australian wine climbs at retail in the U.S. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the value of exports to the U.S. was up 5% for the year ending December 2020. “IRI data for off-premise shows all Australian price points between $4 and $25 grew in 2020, with the best performing being $20-$25,” said Aaron Ridgway, Wine Australia’s regional general manager, Americas. “Chardonnay between $8 and $20 a bottle is in double digit growth, and Cabernet is also growing at 16% between $15-$20.”

The new B2B platform is divided into three sections—the Expo, Discover, and Conversations—that will bring users together with Australian winemakers, while expanding their knowledge and highlighting the full breadth of Aussie wine. For example, the Expo’s search tools will help buyers connect with specific wineries and companies, while Conversations will host monthly seminars about wines and styles, plus other events throughout the next year. The new platform is slated to launch April 27.—Shane English
