•Bob Mariano, a 2015 Market Watch Leader and founder of the Mariano’s grocery chain, is returning to the retail game. Dubbed Dom’s Kitchen & Market, the new store is slated to open in June in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The 18,000 square foot space will feature a centrally located dining area with food stations serving prepared fare, along with fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and other grocery items. •Canteen Spirits is introducing Cantina, a new range of Tequila sodas. Cantina debuts with three flavors—Ranch Water, Grapefruit Paloma, and Watermelon Margarita—and each 12-ounce can has 99 calories. Currently in select states, the 5.6% abv cocktails are rolling out nationally in May retailing at $10 a four-pack. Canteen’s existing vodka sodas earned Impact “Hot Brand” honors after quintupling in size to above a half-million cases last year.
•Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has added Horse Soldier Bourbon to its portfolio across the distributor’s national footprint. The veteran founded brand will be part of SGWS’ new Fine Wine and Artisanal Spirits program. This will expand the whiskey brand’s existing partnership with Foley Family Wines, which recently aligned with SGWS nationally. The Horse Soldier portfolio consists of the brand’s flagship Bourbon (43.5% abv), a small batch release (47.5% abv), and a barrel strength variant.
•Moët Hennessy has unveiled new packaging for Chandon, the company’s globally produced sparkling wine brand. The brand refresh is the first update in the brand’s 60 year history and features the brand name in a vertical strip down the front of the bottle. The bottle’s neck shows off the brand’s seven point star, representing the Chandon estates spread across Argentina, Brazil, California, Australia, China, and India. The newly packaged sparkling wines are now rolling out across the U.S.
•California’s WX Brands has expanded its partnership with Republic National Distributing Co. (RNDC) to a total of 21 U.S. markets. RNDC now represents the WX Brands portfolio across Arizona, California, Colorado, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. WX, which has global volume of 3 million cases annually, recently earned an Impact “Hot Brand” award for its Bread & Butter wine label, which surged 88% to 880,000 cases in the U.S. last year.
•New York-based wine importer Neal Rosenthal will establish a new 6,000 square foot headquarters on the 22nd floor of Ten Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in September. Ten Grand Street is located directly on Domino Park, a six-acre multi-purpose green space spanning a quarter-mile along the East River.
