Craft Brewing and Distilling News for April 19, 2021

•New Jersey-based Penelope Bourbon is expanding both its physical footprint and its portfolio. The distiller is opening its first blending and bottling facility, located in Roselle, New Jersey, and will use it to boost production of its Private Select line by 500% this year. Penelope will also launch its Toasted Series later this spring, which will comprise different char finishes to its Barrel Strength Bourbon. The Roselle facility will focus on blending and bottling the Private Select line and the Toasted Series, while Penelope’s core offerings—Penelope Bourbon, Barrel Strength, and Limited Release—will continue to be bottled and blended at Castle & Key’s distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Penelope was founded in 2018.

•Paso Robles, California-based Firestone Walker has entered an agreement with San Luis Obispo-based SLO Brewing Co. to acquire the SLO’s Cali-Squeeze brand. The Cali-Squeeze lineup consists of a trio of Hefeweizen beers augmented with fruit flavors—mango, passionfruit-orange-guava, and blood orange (all 5.4% abv)—as well as four hard seltzer flavors: the same three plus pink lemonade (all 6% abv). The line-up will stand in contrast to Firestone Walker’s hop-forward offerings and will retain its own brand identity. Financials for the deal, which is expected to close by July 1, weren’t disclosed.
