•The whiskey world suffered a major loss last week with the unexpected death of Gable “Gabe” Erenzo at age 41. Gable and his father Ralph co-founded Tuthilltown Spirits, the pioneering New York State craft distillery, in 2003. Father and son, both avid rock climbers, had originally moved upstate with a plan to start a climbers’ encampment—an idea that eventually would evolve into opening the state’s first distillery since Prohibition. Along with partner Brian Lee, they launched Hudson Whiskey, the highly successful craft label. Whisky Advocate has more on Gable Erenzo’s life and achievements.

•High West is introducing a limited edition of its Rendezvous Rye, featuring artwork from American artist Ed Mell, who’s renowned for his Western landscapes. This limited edition kicks off High West’s transition of the distillery’s flagship whiskey to a seasonal release. This first seasonal edition retails at $70 a 750-ml. and will be available nationwide by the end of May. High West, part of the Constellation portfolio, grew 14% to 132,000 cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank.

•Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Teremana Tequila have kicked off “Guac on the Rock,” a new initiative aimed at supporting local bars and restaurants across the U.S. Through May 5, consumers who order a Teremana-based cocktail and an order of guacamole will be eligible for up to $10 back by uploading a photo of their receipt to guacontherock.com. The program will give back up to $1 million to consumers and the reimbursements will be delivered via Venmo from the Rock. “Guac on the Rock” is running in 35 markets across the U.S. Teremana earned an Impact “Hot Brand” award for its 2020 performance, depleting 230,000 cases in only a partial year on the market.

•Canada’s Nude Beverages has expanded its line of hard iced teas into national distribution in the U.S. The 5% abv RTDs are made with vodka and decaffeinated black tea, and come in at 100 calories per serving. The teas are available in peach, lemon, and raspberry flavors and are not carbonated. Nude Hard Tea joins the company’s hard seltzer, which also comes in at 100 calories and 5% abv, and is available in lime, peach, mango, and raspberry lemon flavors.
