News Alert: Gopuff Acquires Kentucky’s Liquor Barn Retail Chain

June 21, 2021

After acquiring West Coast retailer BevMo last year, e-commerce player Gopuff has further bolstered its profile in beverage alcohol with a new deal to purchase Kentucky-based Liquor Barn for an undisclosed sum.

“This acquisition brings two customer-focused brands together to introduce new products and experiences while rapidly accelerating Gopuff’s geographic footprint in the region as we continue our expansion,” said Daniel Folkman, Gopuff’s SVP, Business.

The deal will see Liquor Barn, Party Mart, and DEP’s footprint of 23 stores provide infrastructure for Gopuff to integrate into its network of micro-fulfillment centers, currently numbering more than 275 around the country, plus its more than 160 BevMo stores on the West Coast. The Liquor Barn footprint includes seven locations in Louisville, six locations in Lexington, as well as stores in Bowling Green, Covington, Danville, Elizabethtown, Ft. Thomas, and Owensboro.

Gopuff added that the acquisition uniquely positions it “to support Kentucky’s Bourbon industry and its thousands of employees by working with distributors to expand access to products nationwide—and introduce products to new customers within the state via instant delivery.”

“Through this partnership, we will continue to deliver beer, wine, and spirits and will add thousands of new items that our customers need in everyday life,” said Jonathan Blue, chairman of Blue Equity and Liquor Barn. “We are excited to join Gopuff in their mission and forge the future of the Instant Needs category together.”—Daniel Marsteller
