Bordeaux On A Double-Digit Growth Track In The U.S.

July 22, 2021

Bordeaux wines saw some of their best growth in the U.S. in decades from June of last year through May of this year, according to the Bordeaux Wine Council. Sales totaled 2.43 million cases, representing value of $326 million.

Volume and value were both up 21% in the period, driven by strong consumer demand and the reopening of hospitality venues across the U.S., as well as the recent suspension of tariffs previously imposed on Bordeaux wines.

While reds continue to be Bordeaux’s primary export, dry whites are gaining prominence and sold 4.13 million bottles in the 12-month period. The U.S. is the second-largest export market for Bordeaux in both volume and value terms.—Danny Sullivan
