WhistlePig Gears Up To Launch Limavady Irish WhiskeyJuly 23, 2021
Vermont-based distiller WhistlePig is set to enter the Irish whiskey category with the launch of Limavady Single Barrel Irish Whiskey in August. Limavady is a revival of an Irish whiskey brand that can trace its roots to the 18th century. It’s helmed by Darryl McNally, who previously was distillery manager for Bushmills and general manager for Quintessential’s Irish whiskey portfolio. With McNally guiding the liquid, WhistlePig will handle bottling and distribution for the brand as it launches in the U.S. and U.K.
The single malt is bottled at 46% abv and, as a single barrel release, is somewhat unique in the Irish whiskey category. For the revival, McNally is finishing his sourced Irish single malt in ex-Bourbon and ex-Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. “I’ve been working in the Irish whiskey industry for a long time, and reclaiming the Limavady whiskey name has been a long-held dream of mine,” said McNally. “Finally bringing it to market is already a huge leap for me, but teaming up with a visionary company like WhistlePig to do so makes it even more exciting,” said McNally.
Limavady will retail at around $50 a 750-ml. and will initially be available in California, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, and Washington through WhistlePig’s distribution network, including Republic National Distributing Company, Breakthru Beverage, and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. A national expansion is in the works for 2022. Moët Hennessy took a minority stake in WhistlePig late last year.—Shane EnglishSubscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
