•Illinois-based Winesellers Ltd. has entered the “better for you” wine category with Fire Road Lighter Sauvignon Blanc. The wine comes in at 9.5% abv and 90 calories per 5-ounce serving. The brand—sourced from vineyards in Marlborough, New Zealand—is kicking off with the 2020 vintage and will be available nationally for around $14 a 750-ml.
•Jack Daniel’s has partnered with the Seattle Kraken to become the official whiskey of Climate Pledge Arena. The agreement also includes a new Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Bar on the main concourse of Climate Pledge Arena. Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey cocktails will be featured alongside the new Jack Daniel’s Canned Cocktails and alcohol-free options. Climate Pledge Arena will open in October as the home of the Seattle Kraken and Seattle Storm, and will feature over 100 nights of live entertainment and music a year.
•Breakthu Beverage has named Rachel Gallen as general manager, Colorado, United Division, which is devoted to Diageo and Moët Hennessy brands. Gallen was previously division manager, Summit Mountain Wine. In her new role, Gallen will be responsible for all sales and marketing for the Colorado United Division, reporting directly to Brian Albenze, executive vice president, United Division, and will serve as a member of the Colorado leadership team.
•Dayton, Oregon-based Sokol Blosser Winery is purchasing Kalita Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The new acquisition is 65 acres of bowl-shaped land with hillsides facing south at elevations of 400-800 feet; 22 of those acres are planted to Pinot Noir. Sokol Blosser’s purchase of Kalita marks the first such move in the 50-year history of the company, which has previously expanded only by buying more land adjacent to its Dundee Hills estate.
